Darwin Uni Housing Mix Evolves as 14-Storey CBD Tower Build Begins
Construction has begun on a 14-storey Darwin CBD student housing tower to be developed by global PBSA operator Campus Living Villages.
CLV’s tower, at Charles Darwin University’s Danala campus in the centre of the Northern Territory capital, will include 352 beds in studio and six-bedroom apartments.
Scheduled for completion in late 2028, the tower will include communal kitchens, study areas and shared spaces.
CLV also manages a village at the university’s campus in the northern Darwin suburb of Casuarina where a major refurbishment including addition of student housing is well advanced.
CLV will manage a total of 710 student beds when the CBD development at 56 Woods Street completes.
The university’s interim vice-chancellor Fiona Coulson said access to purpose-built housing gave prospective students confidence when choosing where to study.
“Darwin and the broader Northern Territory offer a unique experience for international students, with opportunities they simply cannot access elsewhere in Australia,” she said.
“By enhancing our amenities through connected communities, including safe living environments, we provide more opportunities for students to join us in Darwin while strengthening accommodation options that benefit both our students and the wider Northern Territory community.”
CLV chief executive John Schroder said the Woods Street tower would ease pressure on Darwin’s private rental market.
Darwin-based development and construction company DCOH is building the tower.
The Woods Street tower is CLV’s second major new build in recent years, following a soon-to-be-opened accommodation and amenities tower at Griffith University’s campus at Southport on the Gold Coast.
